I really liked this episode. The tension between the brothers was gone and I was really into this weeks plot, unlike last week where I didn't really care at all about Ghandi or Paris Hilton. I thought the banter was good between the boys (loved Dean making the face that "froze that way") and that there was a good balance between the light hearted beginning and the sad, uncertain ending. I don't think it went over the top either way.
I loved Sam and Castiel's confrontation. I always love Sam and Castiel interactions. I mean, here's Sam, who believed in god and prayed often, but went down the total wrong path so all the angels pretty much sneered at him, and then there's Dean, who didn't believe or pray or hope, and here is, on perfectly good terms with an angel, and of course, destined to be Michael's vessel. I love the contrast between them, and I have definitely loved the tension between Sam and Cas ever since Cas first reluctantly took Sam's hand.
Of course, I did kinda feel the need to defend Sam a bit there when Cas was all: "You didn't." *Intense Stare* 'Cause I know that a lot of people are getting fed up with Sam and his emoing right now, but I feel pretty bad for him. Yes, he made the wrong choice, but then again, he was also caught up in a manipulation stretching way before he was even born and you know what? Cas totally helped that manipulation. Not only did he go against his instincts and decide not to tell Sam and Dean that killing Lilith would start the Apocalypse, (and took a really long time to finally let Dean try to find Sam), but he also (under orders) made Dean go back in time, meet his parents, tell his mother about a hunt on her friend which made her try to save her, which introduced her to the Yellow Eyed Demon to begin with, which started whole thing with the deal, and the demon blood, and the fire, and their way of life... and really, none of it would have happened if Cas hadn't sent Dean back.
So yeah, YOU DEFINITELY HAD A HAND IN THE APOCALYPSE, BUDDY!
Ah, I love how the main characters in this show are all so fallen.
Anyway, liked the kid, thought he was cute and sad, and I wonder if they are going to do more with him this season. Also, I really liked the conversation in the car at the end, with Dean actually admitting to regretting a bit of how they were raised.
