Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

I have already gone on about how everyone needs to watch Boston Legal, and I don't think, as much as I love Supernatural that it's for everyone, running havoc with mythological and biblical storylines like it does. (I know the few bits of episodes my mother watched seriously offended her.)

I would love to say that everyone should watch Buffy, simply because it's good, but I know not everyone appreciates it's quirky sense of humor, nor do they have a taste for cheesy puns.

So instead, I'm going to go with:

Doctor Who

Sure, it's SciFi, and not everybody is into it, but it's just so much fun. And it's been on so long it's a major part of TV history now. Plus, if a person decides one Doctor isn't to their taste there's always another one they can watch instead. Also, like Star Trek, Doctor Who (or at least New Who) is so hopeful about mankind. We're tiny and insignificant compared to the rest of the universe at this point in time, but we're growing, expanding and learning, and have the protection of a member of the oldest and most intelligent races out there.

But mostly, it's just so much fun. Watch it. :)

Days under here. )

Dilemma: Give in and watch the five or so Doctor Who episodes I have missed, but so want to watch. Or wait until the season is over and watch it all at once, like I prefer.

Hmmm.. Choices.
Finally managed to watch it today.

Not going to say much, except that I like Eleven. :) Still missed Ten, but Matt Smith had me grinning though out the episode. Also, I really liked the camera angles in this episode, and just the general feel of it. (With the exception of the weird connect the dots cellphone thing.) I'm a little less worried about Steven Moffat taking over after this episode, though still a little wary about whether or not he's going to sacrifice character development for flashy plots. We'll see.

Also, is anybody else having trouble with Livejournal today? It's such a pain in the ass here lately.
I cried. A lot. In fact, I'm still sniffling a bit, though that has less to do with the episode and more to do with the cold I'm coming down with.

Still. Major over emotional crying there.

Reactions. (Long) )

I think I'm going to read some fanfiction now. With Ten. I need comfort fiction.

I have started downloading The End of Time part two, so I have one hour and thirty-two minutes or so until I can watch it. (A rather long time for only 701 mb, but, oh well.)

Last episode with RTD.

Last episode with Ten.

I'm excited to watch this, and yet dreading it at the same time. I wasn't into Doctor Who when David Tennant took over from Christopher Eccleston, so even though I ADORED Nine (He's my Doctor!) I had at least seen a few episodes with Ten so I already knew that I liked him as well. So this--not having any idea how I'm going to respond to a new Doctor, is completely new for me.

It's driving me a bit mad.

Oh Ten, I'll miss you. And you too, RTD, and I hope my worries about Steven Moffat taking over the show are proven unfounded.

Whoa... checked the ETA of the download and it's now on like, two days and a few hours. Um. Yeah, no. I think I'm gonna look for another download.
Finally got around to watching it, which, seeing the end, I now believe was really stupid. I should have waited until Part 2 aired, that way I could watch them back to back. *sigh*

Reactons )

And this has nothing to do with Doctor Who, but I just thought I'd share my word count for the year:

77,373

Not a whole lot considering several people on my flist wrote 50,000 in a month, but still good for me. My goal this year was at least 75,000 (my goal last year was 50,000. I'm slowly working up.) and I surpassed that, so I'm happy. :) Next year's goal? 100,000. And I'm planning on signing up for the Supernatural Big Bang (that lawyer!Sam bunny won't go away!) so that will be at least 20,000 right there.

Oh, and my bandwidth on photobucket was apparently used up, so all my graphics (with the exception of my banner) are turning into those ugly photobucket images. This is sad. *pouts*

Got this from [livejournal.com profile] mephistopholes.

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

So, these aren't all the WIPs I have on my computer, and some of them might very well forever regulated to WIP status, but here we go.

For Empty Hands (Heroes, Matt/Mohinder )

Untitled (Star Trek 2009, Kirk/Spock) )

Untitled (BtVS, Spike/Buffy) )

Untitled (Doctor Who, Ten/Rose, Ten II/Rose) )

Replacements (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Doctor/Rose, Jake/Mickey and whole bunch of other people )

So I signed up for the Doctor/Rose Woulda Coulda Shoulda Fic-athon, in the hopes of kicking my butt back into writing gear. Of course, adding one more story to the list of stories I need to get done when I'm in the middle of a writing funk might not be the smartest idea, but I couldn't resist. I'd already missed the sign up deadline for the Doctor/Rose LAS (again) and this sounded too awesome.

Now I seriously need to write something.

Tried something a little different with this, and I have two of them because I couldn't decide on the colors. Tell me which you like best?

So, I just downloaded Doctor Who the movie, and I gotta say, I wasn't too impressed with it. A lot of things sort of happened without explanation, like why the Eye of Harmony needed a human to open it, how come the Doctor was suddenly half human, and how going back in time before the Eye of Harmony was opened fixed everything. After all, them going back in time didn't change the fact that it was opened on earth before so why was everything okay? I was rather confused.

Also, I thought Eric Roberts performance as the Master was over the top and cheesy. And did the Master usually growl in the original series? 'Cause that's not something I remember about him in season three of New Who. Very strange.

I did, however, like Eight. He was cute and fun and his curls were pretty. And I liked the cravat.

In other news, the numbing stuff from the dentist has worn off and my teeth are seriously killing me. I want to like, bit and gnaw at something. It's driving me up the wall.

This isn't anything new. I wrote this about a month ago for a Nine/Rose comment ficathon, figured I should just go ahead and post it here as well.

So, I went ahead and rewatched the rest of season 1 of Doctor Who--plus the Christmas Special. And you know, every time I get to the end of Parting of the Ways I'm always just as sad as the first time I watched it. I loved Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. But then, it only takes the first few moments of David Tennant talking in front of the Sycorax to make me fall in love with Ten again. :) This upcoming regeneration is going to be rough--the first time I ever watch when it actually happens on the show, rather than years afterwards when I've already seen episodes with the next Doctor.

Anyway, I made another banner. This one for Parting of the Ways. I should probably be writing--I still have several drabbles (ficlets) that I owe to people and I need to get started on my chapter story I have planned, but I can't seem to get the motivation. I feel very lazy, and making graphics is relaxing for me. I stress out over my writing. But don't worry, I won't be able to ignore my word processing program for long.

Oh! and look! Rounded corners! It took me ages to learn how to do this, and when I finally did I couldn't figure out how to make the corners transparent. Finally, I just zoomed in and erased the corners pixel by pixel. If someone knows of an easier way, please let me know. :)

Enough rambling. On to the banner.

Rewatched The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances today. Made a few banners to afterwards. I like the Jack/Rose one the best, though, by trying to keep the sort of dark, brown tinged style that the episodes had, I think I made them sort of look like they're floating in smog. How lovely. Ah well, at least I'm getting better at blending without a mouse or a tablet. Now if I could only learn to draw with the itty bitty touch pad I'll be all set.

Finally, a professional. )

So, I know it only been like, a couple of days since I posted my whole "going on a break" entry, but I can't sleep thanks to this SERIOUSLY UNCOMFORTABLE UTI that I'm currently enduring, and I'm pretty ticked off right now 'cause of my roommate and her boyfriend.

They've been seriously annoying me lately. He's been here, staying in this extremely tiny room for nearly THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT, and today, when my RA came to ask where we were living next semester, he was the one who opened the door. And apparently she smells something on his jacket or something, because five minutes later we have the police at our door, wanting to do a SEARCH for MARIJUANA.

Great. Just great.

Of course, they didn't find anything--although I know Carlton does smoke it, just not here. It would be disrespectful, he says--but still. They went through the whole process of looking through our stuff and bringing the dog in to sniff everything, and then they interrogated us and accused us of being high right then--trying to get us to just crack and confess and tell them where it was.

In two years living on this floor, there has never been a drug search, even though there were people who did drugs in their room, and when it does happen, it happens to my room.

Aren't I just lucky.

*sigh*

I can't wait for this semester to be over. And yay for finding an apartment for next year.

In other news, I just wrote something for a Nine/Rose ficathon (which can be found here) tonight, because once again, I can't sleep, and because I haven't read or written anything for Doctor Who in a while, and I miss it.

I figured since I wrote more last year, than any other (and actually started to post them on livejournal), it would be a good idea to have a post with links to all of them. Organization is a good thing! (Hah. Like I ever follow that belief. In truth, I'm bored.)

Edited: This has been changed to a post that has links to all my fiction, instead of just what I wrote in 2008. Will be edited as more stories are written.
