Just finished Lucifer Rising.
I feel kind of speechless, actually. When I started watching season 1 a few months ago I never expected this to turn out to be an apocalypse story. Part of me misses the easier, urban legend feel of the first season, but I've never been able to resist a good end of the world story. :)
So yeah, my new found hatred of Ruby lasted throughout the season, and I kind of cheered a little when they killed her. I mean, she was an awesome character to hate, but her usefulness plot wise was definitely over. So cue cheering.
I started out rather reluctant to like Castiel in the beginning. I don't know, something about him just sort of put me off, but that definitely changed. I love Cas now, love the interaction between him and Dean, and even him and Sam, what little interaction there was (I definitely would like to see more!) and I'll admit to being a little in love with Misha Collins' eyes. And his hair. I just want to muss it up. So I really hope he survives his confrontation with the archangel.
Bobby was freaking awesome. End of story.
So, Sam and Dean were an angsty, painful mess this season, which I loved and hated at the same time. I seriously wanted to like, beat some sense into Sam a lot of the times. There were so many jobs that sort of paralleled his and yet he still couldn't take a hint and not go down the whole demon blood road. I'm really curious as to how that is going to play out this season, what with Sam supposedly permanently changed now. I wanted to hug Dean. A lot. But that's pretty usual. Anyways, I thought he was awesomely creepy when he was torturing Allistair, all perfectly calm, professional and heavy lidded, like he was really enjoying it. That whole episode was great, from Dean to Cas to Sam, and I finding out that Dean had broken the first seal was awesome and was a much better explanation as for why Dean was the chosen one of heaven and whatnot.
Also, speaking of the first seal, I absolutely loved the symmetry of this season. Dean with an angel riding on his shoulder, Sam with a demon on his; one brother breaking the first seal, the other breaking the last--it was well done, I thought. I also enjoyed the whole angel/demon, obedience/defiance, free will/blind faith themes that were going on, all the twisted manipulation on both the demons and the angels sides, and the idea that God has apparently disappeared altogether is definitely a little uncomfortable. It really makes me wonder at the effects that has on the theme of faith that has been in the last two seasons.
I wonder if there is any sort of essays or meta I could read on that. Hmmm...
Favorite Moments:
--First episode, when Sam and Dean first meet after Dean got back from Hell. The expression on Dean's face...It's like he was perfectly content and peaceful when he saw his brother. And the hug after Bobby stopped Sam from stabbing him--he seemed to actually let himself break down and feel there, in a way he didn't when Bobby gave him a hug in the earlier scene. It made me go "Awww."
--Several scenes during Monster Movie: Dean complaining that Sam saw that movie without him before running off, "Ooo.. Big pretzel!" and Sam just smiling at him, obviously incredibly happy to have his brother back. Also, the whole "re-hyminated" thing. That cracked me up. Oh, and the end with the Porky's 2 moment. :)
--The fact that the Siren took the form of a man who had the same favorite music and cars as Dean, as Dean's what he most wants thing. On one hand, it makes me think he is seriously in love with himself, on the other it just makes me happy cause it reinforces how Sam and Dean really are the most important things in each other's lives. Instead of the perfect woman, Dean had, because of his longing for Sam to be the way he used to be, the perfect little brother. On the other, other hand, I would like to say, as someone who usually slashes a lot in fandoms, that I had to snicker a bit at this one. 'Cause you really don't even need the slash goggles for it.
--Pretty much all of "It's a Terrible Life," but especially the first few minutes, with Dean in his suit and suspenders and diet food and the scene in the elevator.
--Oh my god! The scene in "The Monster at the End of this Book" where Sam and Dean talk about the fans. "Sam girls" and "Dean girls" and--oh god--"As in Sam slash Dean. Together." That whole conversation coupled with Sam's look of uncomfortable disgust had me rolling. What an awesome way to poke fun of the fandom.
--The scene between Castiel and Dean in the second to last episode, where Dean, who has denied being the one to end the apocalypse before, finally says he'll do it if it meant Sam didn't have to. It shows just how far he would go for his brother. He wouldn't do it to save the world, but to save Sam? He'd try. That coupled with the--real--voicemail he left Sam after the fight and it shows just how strong their bond is. It's so strong that is completely unhealthy, and yet, admirable all the same.
So, I'm all caught up now and I can watch the premiere this Thursday. :) Really though, I don't know how I am going to live through this season. These episodes are always so painful and intense that I don't know how I am supposed to wait a week in between them.

Yeah, I did have to get used to Cas at the beginning. But once I got to It's the Great Pumpkin and the introduction of Uriel and Castiel's soulful "I'm not sure about this" look, I pretty much adored him. And after the episode with Jimmy, I could really appreciate more how Misha played Castiel.
There are no words for how awesome Bobby is.
