I was the same! Angel was a boring character on 'Buffy' and I highly doubted that he could carry his own show but I was glad to be proven wrong. Throughout the series he start to lose his Angel/Angelus personality and begins to accept his 'darker' side. He really becomes a much more interesting character because of this.
His scenes with Spike are great too. I'd really love to see Angel, Spike and Buffy in a scene together after everything that has happened in the two series - I'm waiting for this to happen in the comics ... we do get a naughty fantasy scene courtesy of Buffy though :)
