RIP Gabriel. You were awesome. I'll miss you.
I'm not really sure how I feel about this episode. At first I was all, "Yay other gods! This could be epic!" and then it...wasn't. For all of Kahli's complaints about the powers of Judeo-Christian faith thinking they're the only religion in the world, the characters from that faith still ran the show, and the other gods still died with very little fanfare. Or fight. Granted, I know that the main theology of this show is Judeo-Christian, but I was hoping for something a little bit bigger.
And the random Ghostfacers splice kinda threw me off. Broke the mood just a little too much for me.
Okay, so I knew the rings of the Four Horsemen would come in to play at some point, but I'm kind of disappointed as to how. I don't know, the whole, magical key scavenger hunt thing just doesn't sit right with me. It seems to break away from how the finales of the last four season went, which I saw as desperation, desperation, angst angst angst, seemingly futile fighting and then a last minute, half assed plan.
I liked it. It worked for the Winchesters, I thought. Now we're getting the beginnings of a plan three episodes in advanced? Don't like it.
I did like the bit between Lucifer and Gabriel, simply because it really did seem like two brothers fighting, rather than some over the top angel drama. And I like that Lucifer was upset afterward. Supernatural does a great job of making relatable characters out of mythical figures.
Oh, and Pestilence really grossed me out. More so than Famine. If he's the focus of the next episode, it might be hard for me to watch.
I was disappointed that we didn't get to see much outside the hotel. Now I can't go on about how the scenery definitely wasn't Indiana, and how their Muncie was lacking the railroads, weird five way stops, massive amounts of liquor stores and tattoo parlors (college town, hello) and the ghastly amount of potholes in roads. Though I do have to say that that must have been a very long detour from I90, since it runs near South Bend, which is almost three hours north of Muncie.

Actually, if Vancouver is half as bad as Victoria they'd have had it covered XD
I'd forgotten about the Ghostfacers! Probably on purpose. Why was it there? Do we know? I thought that the new Intern looked a little bit like one of the gods at the table, but it might have just been all of that blonde hair.
I felt like the show tried to impress at how serious the situation was when Sam and Dean realised they were up against not just the same old, but against several other pantheons. I think their initial reaction - that they were completely and totally screwed - was dead on. It just fell apart after that, for all of the reasons you talked about. A flister of mine pointed out that Gabriel (like Henriksen before him) couldn't stay, because he'd have been too powerful an ally; the same was probably deemed true of the gods. It wouldn't be about Sam and Dean (and Cas) saving the world anymore, but that they're insisting on that presents some of the same awkward issues.
