This is a good first fic. I love the insight you've shown into the characters. It's interesting to see another side of Gile's lesson for Buffy. Giles thinks that Buffy has to make hard decisions, but he believes that decision is to give up Spike for the sake of humanity. But you've shown that Buffy's hard decision may be one that she's always been against in the past: to sacrifice a human life, namely Wood's. Spike is not only important to Buffy, but he's important--integral, even--to the fight against the First. Buffy knows this, and she's willing to make big sacrifices (Wood, her relationship with Giles) in order to be sure that Spike stays around. Thanks for sharing :-)
