So, it's been years since I've written any Buffy fic, but this story has actually been sitting on my hard drive unfinished for a long time now, and since I've been rewatching Buffy again I finally got off my butt and finished it.

It's the third story from my Hot Chocolate series, and I have two more planned before the whole series is finished.

So me and my friend Kate were going to go out to a bar and dance tonight, but while we were killing time at my apartment before the DJ started playing (we didn't want to get there before. Boring.) we decided to watch the Payley Festival Buffy Reunion panel, and now we've decided to just stay home and watch Buffy episodes.

We'll probably have more fun this way, (We've got drinks here!!) but most people will probably think we're just losers.

I thought you guys would understand though. :D

Yesterday I went to the GI doctor. After giving her a list of symptoms as long as my leg and the entire story of my life for the past year, she took one look at my lab (either the TTG or the IGG, I'm not sure. I've had so many blood tests done that I can't even keep track anymore) and told me I probably do have Celiac's disease. Wonderful.

She's running a full Celiac's panel just to sure, as well as food allergy IGE (there's another five tubes of my blood for the hospital to play with) and we've scheduled an upper endoscopy for next Wednesday. So I guess we'll know for sure by then.

Part of me wants it to be true, simply because then I'll know what is wrong and I can start getting my life back (actually, I'm told that you get Celiac's disease from the first time you ever eat gluten, so if it's true my health will be better than it has have been. I wonder what it would be like to have energy. Huh. ) but most of my is praying that it isn't, because I really love flour. I love bread, and cookies and brownies and breaded chicken, and I was looking at lists of candy that have gluten in and there's a horrible amount of my favorites in there.

(Reese's minis? How will I survive without them?)

My doctor told me not to cut back on the gluten while we wait to find out, because that could make the test a false negative, so I've been gorging myself on it. There is, in fact, and open bag of Reese's minis right beside me, and yesterday I went out to eat at O'Charley's (I love their rolls. I'll miss them.) and the other day I went and ate at the Olive Garden. I'm planning on eating pizza the night before my endoscopy, because I know that ordering pizza when I'm hanging out with my friends will be something I really miss.

Oh my god. I just realized. The fried onion flower? You know, my favorite food item in the world, the thing I posted about when Writer's Block asked about our choice of last meal, the thing that I totally got excited about when Spike started going on about this "onion thing" in the later seasons of Buffy because I loved it as much as he did? Yeah. It's breaded. With flour.

Oh god. If this test is positive I'm never going to get to eat it again.

*whimper*


In an unrelated note, I've been rewatching a few season 1 Veronica Mars episodes today, and you know who I'm starting to ship a little? Veronica and Meg. I don't read a whole lot of femmeslash, but sometimes the idea will really stick with me. (For instance, Buffy and Faith. Despite my usual fanatic OTPness when it comes to Spuffy, whenever Buffy and Faith are in a scene together I can't help but ship them, and I was totally feeling it season 3.) Anyway. I love Veronica and Meg together, even just as good friends. Which makes what happened in season 2 all the more sad.

It's funny how much I like Alona Tal in Veronica Mars, considering how much her character Jo annoyed me in Supernatural. I don't know, her wannabe hunter act was a little annoying, and I always thought she seemed far too young for Dean. (Jo and Sam, however? I could actually see.) Of course, I absolutely loved her in her one episode in season 5, thought her character seemed a lot more grown up--more hunter than wannabe hunter, so I'm not happy about the end of that episode, considering she had just started to be awesome.

Speaking of those rare female Supernatural characters, I've been creating .avi clips to edit with (I'm vidding again! Yay! And I am so excited about what I'm working on right now.) and at the moment I'm working on season three.

Can I just say again, how much I love Ruby in that season? I mean, I realize that love for Ruby seems to be an unpopular opinion in this fandom, but I thought she was awesome in that season. Totally badass, with her confrontational attitude and her witchcraft and the way she kept saving the boys' life. I didn't trust her then, but I wanted to. And I thought she was totally more believable as the good-demon-with-regret than in season 4, where I thought her manipulation was more obvious.

I miss Katie Cassidy's Ruby. She rocked.

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite t.v show

Health Update: I've been sleeping like, twenty hours a day here lately. Or rather, lying in bed dosing in and out for a few hours, then sleeping about fifteen hours straight, before waking up and dosing again. My mother is freaked out and is insisting on getting me admitted to the hospital so they can figure out what's going on faster. I'm not really down with this plan, but it looks like I'm going to be dragged there against my will.

Oh, and I slept through my alarm Monday, and consequently, my job interview. So that's not happening now.

So I haven't watched any Supernatural since the finale, nor have I, thanks to my new obsession with Merlin, read a lot of fic for it either. But this morning I got a real craving for both, specifically season 2 stuff. I ended up watching What Is and What Should Never Be and there's this bit of dialogue when Sam gets in the car with Dean and insists that whatever Dean is doing he's not doing it alone that I found familiar.

Dean: I don't understand. Why are you doing this?

Sam: Because you're still my brother.


Now, compare this to the scene in Point of No Return where Sam frees Dean from the handcuffs and tells him that he's going with Sam and Cas to rescue Adam.

Dean: I don't get it, Sam, why you doing this?

Sam: Because you're still my big brother.

Maybe I'm slow and everybody realized this the minute they saw this scene, but it made me happy this morning and I thought I'd share. :)


Also, was Dean's aborted attempt at a Bitch/Jerk moment in WIWSNB the last one we see on the show? 'Cause if so it's been far too long and I really think there needs to be another. Come on, Sera, bring the Bitch/Jerk back.

And maybe some Winchester hugs. I was really disappointed we didn't get one this season.

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

So, I was having a hard time deciding between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural. I fell in love with the characters of both shows, both inspired me to write more than any other show, and I got seriously into both of shows--talking to the TV, jumping up and down when something great happens, crying when something sad happens. But the thing is, I've just recently discovered both of these shows, and am still riding the high that comes with falling in love with a show (and with a fandom), I don't now if my love for Buffy will fade with time (I doubt it) or if my passionate obsession with Supernatural will stop soon after the series end. (I hope not.)

So I'm not going to pick either.

Instead, I'm going to talk about a show I grew up with, and have loved all my life and that love has never faded. I seriously doubt it ever will.




Star Trek (TOS)


I have SO much love for this show. I love the cheesy music and the dramatic lighting. I love the way Shatner pauses in his speeches and how the camera will close up on him all the time. I love the Styrofoam sets and how all the rocks Kirk picks up for weapons look like they way less than a pound. I even love how Kirk finds and abandons a love interest almost once an episode, and I love how ridiculously easy his shirts ripped.

I especially love the ridiculous alien costumes. Like this one, for example:




But most of all I love how, in contrast to other sci fi stories like Star Wars or The Matrix, this show is hopeful about the future. It's not about how the human race ruined itself and the earth, or about how another species took over and enslaved them, or how corrupted the government became. It's about the human race surviving long enough to go out and explore the universe, not to conquer it but to understand it and to make peace with all the other planets and cultures out there. The crew of the Enterprise are always meeting a violent culture that hasn't developed yet and trying to help them grow (either by leaving them alone to do so, or trying to impart some wisdom to them) or coming across a race of people far more advanced than the human race and then leave with the hope that humans will get there too at some point.

I think that in a time when everyone is stressing out about war and racism and global warming and denied rights, its a good show to rewatch just feel hopeful that, yeah we'll get through all this somehow.

And that's my more optimistic side. I don't show it very often, but Star Trek always puts me in that kind of mood.


Also? This show is ridiculously slashy. I mean, it was like, the start of slash fanfiction. And it's no wonder when you watch Spock and Kirk together. Or Spock and McCoy, or McCoy and Kirk. Just. Slash abounds.

I was so tired yesterday that I just feel asleep around six in the evening without posting this. Oh well.

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching.

So, I'm going to change this a little (Yes, I know, I never keep to the rules) and talk about a show I wish more people had watched. Because I really wish it hadn't been canceled, even if it did have five seasons (more like four and a half), but mostly because I just really want to talk about it.

I love this show. My mother was the one who got me into it, she rented the first season and watched it and then tried to get me to. At first I just rolled my eyes and was all "Oh, great, another law show," but she pressured me into it, assuring me it was fantastically written so I gave it a try and I am SO GLAD I did.

It IS fantastically written, and the characters are ridiculous and awesome and so funny. The cases the show deal with range from serious and heart breaking to out of this world insane--and even then there is usually a twist that brings on the serious side. It was running commentary on social events and the mind set of people here in America, and a lot of the (admittedly, over the top) speeches that they (mostly the character Alan) gave really made you think. And the show is constantly breaking the fourth wall in the funnest ways--many times to bitch about the network it was on because they kept doing this to mess them up--and I love stuff like that.

But my favorite thing has to be the relationship between Denny Crane and Alan Shore (played by William Shatner and James Spader). Denny is a big time lawyer living off the memory of his glory days who might possibly have Alzheimer's (though he refers to it as the "mad cow"). He's constantly trying to prove that he isn't as gone as the rest of the firm believes he is while at the same time trying to be as weird and crazy as possible--sticking smoking cigars in his ears (keeps them guessing, he says), dressing up as a flamingo for Halloween, shooting people with paint ball guns, buying a custom made blow up doll in the likeness of his ex-lover and still friend Shirley Shmidt, and trying to sleep with just about everyone. His character constantly makes ridiculous statements, and it's hard to tell when he's being serious and when he's just being Denny.

Alan is Denny's best friend and only came to the firm because of him. He hits on just about everyone and in a really oily, lecherous way, and yet somehow this becomes an endearing quality, because despite his sarcasm and the way he is constantly at odds with everyone (besides Denny) he is a good person. He's usually the first to jump on a soap box and preach at the jury, and he often takes the seemingly stupid, ridiculous or hopeless cases and then argues them in a way that shows you how not stupid they are at all. He tends to befriend the weirdos in the firm-- the people who get put down and not taken seriously, and is always there to help them out or defend them. He's extremely passionate and very good at this job, though half the time it seems everyone at the firm hates him. (He's totally my favorite character. I LOVE him.)

Denny and Alan are ridiculous together-- they take trips to a fishing lodge in Canada where they end up spooning, they wear matching Halloween costumes (flamingos!), they dance with each other in Denny' office, they go to the spa together and share a milk bath, they have sleep overs where they eat popcorn and smores and Alan ties himself to Denny so he won't get up and walk off the balcony in the middle of the night because of his night terrors, and at the end of every episode they sit together on Denny's balcony and drink scotch and smoke cigars. Their relationship sometimes seems like a father and son one, sometimes it seems like they're married, and sometimes they fight--over Denny shooting a homeless man with a paint ball gun, or whether or not Alan can sleep with Shirley, Denny's ex--but no matter what happens it obvious that these two love each other very, very much. Their devotion to and support of each other make this show, in my opinion, and put more traditional story line loves--the epic romance, for instance--to shame.
